SPARK History and Mission Statement – April 2007

Safe Parks and Recreation for Kids, Inc. (SPARK)playground is a 501©3, all-volunteer, community-based nonprofit organization whose goal is to rebuild Fairfield’s parks and recreational areas – one neighborhood at a time.

Since its founding in 1994 by a group of Lincoln Park-area parents, SPARK has contributed more than $300,000 in support of a wide range of projects initiated  by Fairfield families dedicated to the health and well-being of the town’s children. This amount does not include the sweat equity contributed by dozens of volunteers and Department of Public Works employees who have installed playground equipment, fencing and other features.

In addition, SPARK supported an ambitious effort to bring a community pool facility to Fairfield. The SPARK Pool Committee raised $100,000 from residents who voiced their need and desire for a town pool. Every penny of this money was returned in 2004 when the town tabled the project.
