The American Red Cross offers a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate swimming and water safety program that teaches you, your child or other family members how to swim skillfully and safely, and think and act safely in, on and around the water. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisites.

What They'll Learn

The Learn-to-Swim program focuses on building skills one step at a time. By giving them the opportunity to master one element before moving on to the next, our kids' swim classes make it easy to build confidence in the water. Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons    Ages: 5+ / Adults

Fairfield Parks and Recreation is now offering private and semi-private lessons, for any skill level, for ages 5 and up.  Even adults can learn to swim; it is never too late!  In a private lesson, your instructor is devoted entirely to your needs for the entire lesson. In a private lesson, the instructor is available to spend time on the areas where you need assistance. There is no prescribed curriculum—it’s about what you want to learn, with the flexibility to spend as much or as little time as necessary. With our group lessons, some customers may find that the level you need isn’t offered at a convenient time. Many of our customers pursue private lessons simply for the ease and flexibility of scheduling. More than one student at a time is considered a semi-private lesson; a semi-private lesson may include up to four students.

Students in lessons must be residents of Fairfield.  For semi-private lessons, the customer registering must be a Town of Fairfield resident.  Class sessions run 45 minutes each and will be located at Jennings Beach or Lake Mohegan based on requests and instructors availability. Days and times are scheduled based on customer request and instructor availability.  It will take 3-4 minutes to get you registered, during which you will deliver information about the student’s skill level and objectives, age, gender preferences, and schedule availability.  Within 2-3 business days, we will determine the instructor who best meets your needs and notify you of your instructor assignment.  Registration forms can be found online and at our office and must be submitted at the Parks and Rec. office- must show proof of residency to complete registration.  Please be sure to request multiple day and time options when completing the registration form.
