Outdoor Skills Course

Outdoor Skills Course
Troop 199

Here’s a very unique opportunity for kids ages 11 to 17 to learn outdoorsmanship skills. Learn how to build a fire, safely use axes and saws, cook your own food in the outdoors, pitch a tent and more. Members of local Troop 199 of the BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America, but now open to boys and girls) will be your guide in your outdoor adventure. You’ll also learn how to navigate through the wild, tie all the basic knots, learn about what plants are edible or dangerous and how to do First Aid.  If you miss one, you can make up what you missed at a future session. There will also be one local overnight campfire and campout in which you can practice what you learned. If you complete the course and decide you want to join BSA, you’ll have completed much of what you need to finish the first three ranks of the program.
